Vehicle Tracking FAQs
Below are some frequently asked questions regarding vehicle tracking systems. It often helps to know all the ‘technical jargon’ before attending a sales demonstration so that you are best equipped to make an informed decision before signing any contract.
What is Real-Time Vehicle Tracking?
Real time vehicle tracking shows what your driver is doing at the present time, it allows you to view where in the country you vehicle actually is, is it stationary, is it on the move, is it speeding, is it stopped en route, stuck in traffic or an unscheduled stop. The real-time vehicle tracking system will keep you up dated with your vehicle’s progress and enable you to keep your customers informed of estimated ETAs.
What is Geofencing?
A geofence is a predetermined electronic boundary or geographical fence that is established via a portal and is specifically assigned to certain vehicles. When a vehicle to which the geofence is assigned, breaches a designated geofenced area by either entering or leaving then an email alert is triggered that the breach has occurred and at what time.
What is the Update Rate?
The units in the vehicles are updated every five minutes, this is deemed to be the industry standard and can give a clear indication as to the route and speed travelled by the vehicle. However in some industries more frequent details are required and The Chameleon Asset Track vehicle tracking system can be configured to report on a more regular basis, options to our standard poling are available on request.
What is Polling/Pinging?
The Chameleon Asset Track vehicle tracking system polls the unit within the vehicle every five minutes, this means that the location of the unit is being determined via GPS satellite and the data is transmitted via GPRS to your portal on the server, which you easily access via a laptop or PC.
